I can still remember the first time I saw The Karate Kid. It was at the movies with my brother and cousins and we loved it so much that we used to re-enact the tournament scenes.
Even though Ralph Macchio had the lead role - I didn't think he was all that great. This movie belonged to William Zabka. He played his role with a passion that made him so believable in the role of Johnny. It's a shame he hasn't gone on to bigger roles as he is such a good actor.
Even though Elisabeth Shue had a minor role, I thought she was very good, although I didn't believe Ali and Daniel as a couple as there was no chemistry between them - I thought she was better suited to Johnny- any way it is good to see Elisabeth get out of the typecast roles of the girlfriend ( Back to the Future 2 & 3, Cocktail etc etc.
Up until two years ago when it was on television, the last time I saw this movie was when I was 12 years old. When watching it after a 8 year gap, the one thing that surprised me was that The Karate Kid has not aged. It is still as good today as it was 15 years ago and it is one movie that should not be missed.
